Adrian Gray becomes the third player after Kevin Painter and Andy Callaby who succeeds to beat Taylor in this tournament. In 2007 Gray punishes every mistakes the best player in the world makes and wins surprisingly 2-0 in sets. Gray loses to Canadian ace John Part later who completes the semi-final line-up, which further consists of the numbers two, three and four of the world. Part loses in the semi-final to Terry Jenkins and the brand new World Matchplay champion James Wade beats Raymond van Barneveld on the same day. Wade then also beats Terry Jenkins in the final and picks up his second major title of the year.
