The 2024 Lakeside WDF World Championship was held from 29 November to 8 December at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. This year, the field of participants was expanded from four to eight players.
Six different nationalities were represented in the last eight. The number one on the seeding list is Jenson Walker. He beats his compatriot Mason Teese in the quarterfinals. The unseeded German Florian Preis beats the fourth-seeded Hungarian Balasz Szotak. It is then Walker who manages to beat Preis 2-1 in the semi-finals.
In the bottom half of the draw. Lex Paeshuyse from Belgium beats the number three seed Latvian Ralfs Laumanis in the quarterfinals and Archie Self wins in a great match against the Dutchman Kendji Steinbach. In the semi-final, Self is ultimately the better player, winning 2-0 against Paeshuyse.
The final is a fantastic battle between the two Englishmen. Walker wins the first set, then Self takes two in a row to see Walker come back to 2-2. In the last set it is Self who hits the doubles best and thus he crowns himself the 2024 WDF Lakeside boys World Champion. For the first time since 2019 when Leighton Bennett won the title, the prize goes to England again.
