The 23rd edition of the WDF Europe Cup was held at the x-bionic® sphere in Samorin, Slovakia. The men's tournament starts with 40 teams. Eight countries leave their women at home. For the first time since 2016, there are no debuting countries. The Europe Cup was played from the 25th to the 28th of September.
The English Beau Greaves is the defending champion, she won the tournament in Spain in 2022. Greaves is not there this year to defend her title. This year, the prize goes home with the Irish Robyn Byrne. She wins the final against the Dutch Noa-Lynn van Leuven with 7-4.
When we reach the quarterfinals, seven countries are still in the running for the title, only Ireland has two players left. Robyn Byrne reaches the semi-finals here by beating the Croatian Marina Letica with 5-2. She plays the semi-final against compatriot Katie Sheldon, who beats the Finnish Kirsi Viinikainen 5-2 in the quarterfinals. Byrne is in good form and Sheldon must leave the tournament after a 6-3 loss, which means Byrne qualifies for the final against Noa-Lynn van Leuven. The Dutch player beats the Scottish Lorraine Hyde 5-1 in the quarterfinals and then sends Michelle Merlit from Denmark home quite easily 6-0 in the semi-finals. Merlit beat the Bulgarian Ivanina Ivanova in the quarterfinals, after an exciting match ending in 5-4.
In the final, the Irish Robyn Byrne is too strong for the Dutch Noa-Lynn, beating her 7-4. Ireland has never won gold at a WDF Europe Cup Singles for women before.
