U.S. Darts Masters

The Mandala Bay Resort & Casino was the stage for the second edition of the US Darts Masters on the 6th and 7th of July. The tournament consists of eight PDC players who will face eight North-American qualifiers in the first round. The eight PDC players of this year are: Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Rob Cross, Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price, James Wade and Daryl Gurney.

The only big surprise in the first round is the victory of Dawson Murschell who beats Gerwyn Price with an astonishing 6-2 victory. One round later the fairy-tale for Murschell comes to an end when he gets beaten by Gary Anderson. Michael van Gerwen, who has won the first edition of the US Darts masters, wasn’t capable of prolonging his title. The Dutchman was send home in the second round after suffering a big 8-3 loss against an excellent James Wade.

Gary Anderson claims the victory at the end of Saturday night. The Scotsman has no problems to win his first round against DJ Sayre. Via his victories over Murschell and Wade he secures himself a spot in the final. His opponent in the last game is Rob Cross. Cross reaches the final by beating Ross Snook, Michael Smith and Peter Wright with some good darts.

During the final Cross is no match for Anderson. The Englishman starts the final very strong by winning 3 legs in a row. From then on Cross’ performance goes downhill. Gary Anderson finds his game and wins six legs in a row, which gives him a 7-4 lead. Eventually the Flying Scotsman claims the US Darts Masters by winning the last leg via a 164-finish. Result: 8-4. It’s Andersons sixth World Series win, Rob Cross still waits for his first.
