Michael Smith was not allowed to defend his title at the Youth World Championships because of his age, so a new world champion would be crowned. Keegan Brown from the isle of Wight claimed the title by defeating Austrians Rowby-John Rodriguez in the final: 6-4.

Brown impressed at the qualification tournament by winning against Ryan de Vreede, number one seed Adam Hunt and Dirk van Duijvenbode among others. The schedule of Rodriguez on his way to the final seemed easier, however his victory over Dean Reynolds in the quarterfinal is worth mentioning.
