On September 28 the battle for a place in the World Youth Championship final starts. Defending champion Luke Humphries is not participating, so there are plenty of chances for a new World Champion.
It would have been very close to an all Dutch final: both Jeffrey de Zwaan and Niels Zonneveld managed to qualify for the semi-finals. Unfortunately for them, the final is just a step too far. Zonneveld has no chance against Bradley Brooks (6-1) while De Zwaan loses a deciding leg against the surprise of the tournament Joe Davis.
Twenty-year-old talent Brooks already managed to deal with Sam Coenders, Henry Cutting, Rhys Griffin, William Borland and Martin Schindler earlier in the day. The 23-year-old Davis is the 21st seed, but manages to book good victories over Roman Benecky, Keith O'Neill, Jack Male, Jaikob Selby-Rivas and Brian Raman before he beats De Zwaan in the semis.
The final between Brooks and Davis will be played on November 29, prior to the final of the Players Championship Finals. It will not go down in history as a beautiful final, but as an exciting final. For the second time in the tournament's ten-year history, a decisive eleventh leg must be involved. In the end it is Brooks who manages to throw the last double, allowing him to call himself World Champion for a year. His average is 81.63 and therefore the lowest average with which the World Cup final has ever been won.
