In 2011 the Youth World Championships were being held for the first time at the PDC. 64 players competed against each other at a qualifying day and two players remained, who played each other on January 3rd. After winning five matches, Michael van Gerwen and Arron Monk qualified for the final. Monk managed to win the final 6-4.

Van Gerwen defeated some well known names on his way tot he final. Keegan Brown, Adam Hunt, Shaun Griffiths and Benito van de Pas were victims of the Van Gerwen-rush. Monk saw off some lesser-known players, but impressed in the final against Van Gerwen by beating him 6-4, averaging over 93 per three darts.
