The fifth edition of the German Darts Grand Prix was held from 8 to 10 April in the Zenith Kulturhalle in Munich. Michael Smith took the title for the first time after a victory in the final over Nathan Aspinall.

The World Champion starts the tournament in the last 32 with a match against Adam Warner. Smith survives three match darts in the last leg, after which he still manages to win the match 6-5. A round later, a match with the winner of the last two EuroTour tournaments (Gerwyn Price) awaits. Smith throws an average of 107.07 in this game and beats the man in form 6-2.

The Irishman Keane Barry then waits for Smith in the quarterfinals. It will be an exciting match that will eventually be won 6-4 by the number 1 in the world. In the semi-finals, 'The Bully Boy' meets the croud favorite Damon Heta. Heta is very close to his second ever EuroTour final, but loses 7-6 to Smith. In the other semi-final, Nathan Aspinall is too strong for Joe Cullen (7-5), which means that Aspinall reaches the final of a EuroTour tournament for the first time in his career.

Aspinall will have to wait a while for the first title. 'The Asp' has already won this tournament against Cameron Menzies (6-3), Jim Williams (6-3), Andrew Gilding (6-4) and thus Joe Cullen in the semi-finals, but the World Champion is the best in the final. Smith wins 8-5, records an average of 102.88 and wins a EuroTour tournament for the sixth time in his career.
