The second edition of the Las Vegas Desert Classic is played from 1 to July 7 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. The tournament has changed somewhat in format. This year 24 players are in the main tournament. Eight players are placed directly into as many groups. The remaining 16 players come from a qualifying tournament held in advance.

The only qualifier that comes through the group stage is Steve Beaton, he does so at the expense of last year finalist Ronnie Baxter. The tournament will be a prey for 'One Dart' Manley Peter who takes his first and only major television title to date. Manley beats John Part in the final, who knocks out the defending champion Phil Taylor a round earlier.
