The fifth edition of the Las Vegas Desert Classic was played from June 26 to July 2. After four years at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, the tournament moved to the Mandalay Bay this year.
It is the first time that Raymond van Barneveld is playing in the tournament after his move from the BDO to the PDC. He has to qualify for the main tournament, but once that happened, he plays a strong tournament. In the semi-finals he beat defending champion Phil Taylor, but he will not win the tournament. As is so often the case in the major tournaments the player who beats Taylor does not win the tournament.
John Part gets away with the victory. The Canadian plays a solid tournament and wins the final 6-3 over the Dutchman. On his way to the final Part also puts an end to the dreams of Ronnie Baxter, Roland Scholten, Terry Jenkins and Wes Newton.
