The third edition of the Women’s World Matchplay was held on 21 July in The Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Beau Greaves is the defending champion, she defeated Mikuru Suzuki in the final last year and she successfully defends her title.
Greaves beats the Irish Katie Sheldon 4-1 in the quarterfinals, then Mikuru Suzuki is also put aside in the semi-finals 5-2. No surprises on the other side of the playing field either. Fallon Sherrock is seeded second and easily wins against Anastasia Dobromyslova 4-0. In the semi-finals it is a lot more difficult against the experienced Lisa Ashton. Fallon survives seven match darts but still manages to win the match.
Both ladies have saved the best for last because the final is one to remember. Greaves takes a 2-0 lead, Sherrock comes back to 2-2, but after that it is Greaves who can keep up the top level the longest. She is above 100 average for a long time in the match, but eventually ends up with an average of 98.75, more than enough to win the match 6-3 and prolong her title.
