The 23rd edition of the WDF Europe Cup was held at the x-bionic® sphere in Samorin, Slovakia. The men's tournament starts with 40 teams. Eight countries leave their women at home. There are no debuting countries for the first time since 2016. The Europe Cup was played from 25 to 28 September.
Frenchman Jacques Labre won the previous edition of the tournament, although he will not be there this year to defend his title. In 2022, he defeated Finn Teemu Harju 7-2 in the final.
His compatriots do not make it very far. Erwan Barre and Nicolas Thuillier make it the furthest, but leave the tournament in the last 128. In the last 16, 11 different countries are still in the tournament, including three Dutch, three Scots and two Croatians.
In the quarterfinals, the three Dutch are still in contention, although Wesley Plaisier loses 5-0 to Englishman Cameron Crabtree. Johann Brouwer also has to leave the tournament after losing 5-2 to Romanian Laszlo Kadar. Dennie Olde-Kalter beats Serbian Oliver Ferenc 5-4. Finally, Northern Irishman Adrian Devine also manages to win his match against Croatian Marko Janjic with 5-1.
In the semi-finals, things get exciting for Olde Kalter. He narrowly manages to beat Laszlo Kadar with 6-5 and thus qualifies for the final. On board two, Adrian Devine also qualifies for the final by beating Cameron Crabtree with 6-2.
The final is not played until a day later and on stage, Northern Irishman Adrian Devine cannot show the game that he was able to show on the floor earlier. The Dutchman Dennie Olde-Kalter wins the final with 7-5 and thus crowns himself the 2024 WDF Europe Cup Singles champion. After Co Stompe (1998), Raymond van Barneveld (2004) and Richard Veenstra (2016), Olde-Kalter is the fourth Dutchman to win this singles title.
