The World Grand Prix 2018 was played from 30 September till 6 October. Michael van Gerwen was victorious in the 21st edition of the World Grand Prix at the CityWest Hotel in Dublin. The Dutchman saw off Peter Wright 5-2 in the final. It was the fourth time Mighty Mike won the double in and double out tournament in Ireland.

Van Gerwen did not lose a single set until the quarterfinal. In the first round he defeated the only competing Irishman, Steve Lennon, 2-0 and at the last sixteen Darren Webster was swept aside 3-0. In a thrilling quarter final, in which Van Gerwen threw an average of over 101 per three darts, MVG beat Dave Chisnall 3-1. He cruised to the semi-final, where he met the reigning champion in Daryl Gurney. The Northern-Irishman could not stop Van Gerwen: 4-1.

Peter Wright had more trouble reaching the World Grand Prix final. The Scotsman survived the first two rounds without losing a set (Steve West 2-0, Jermaine Wattimena 3-0) but encountered an in-form James Wilson in the quarterfinal. Snakebite struggled but defeated Wilson 3-2, after which he came back from 3-0 down in the semi-final against Mensur Suljovic, winning the game 4-3.
