In 1989 Canada already hosted the WDF World Cup, when it was played in Toronto, in 2013 Saint Johns on the Eastern tip of the country was chosen as host city. Because some of the European and Asian teams were missing, the figures are a bit lagging behind on previous years. It will also be the last WDF World Cup for Norwegian Roy Price in his capacity as chairman of the WDF.

There were 27 men's teams, 25 women's teams and 11 youth teams present at this nineteenth WDF World Cup. All major countries on paper were there to compete in the Sports NL Center from 1 to 5 October. Among them, the men of Jersey for the first time.

The English ladies Deta Hedman & Trina Gulliver become the second pair ever to successfully defend their pairs title in a ladies WDF World Cup. Gulliver previously did this in 2005 together with Clare Bywaters. The English duo lose only four legs in the five group matches and then Finland and Italy are defeated towards the semi-finals. The Norwegian duo Rachna David & Marta Krol awaits. The Norwegian ladies take two of the seven legs, which gives Hedman & Gulliver relatively easy to road the final.

The home-playing ladies Cindy Hayhurst & Dianne Gobeil await there. The Canadian ladies play very strong and among others beat Japan and South Africa on their way to the semi-final. In the semi-finals they beat 5-2 against the experienced Scottish ladies Louise Hepburn & Frances Lawson. A lot is expected in advance of the confrontation with the English ladies in the final, but the Canadian ladies do not bring the game that brought them in the final. Deta Hedman & Trina Gulliver win 6-1.

It is the fifth gold medal in the pairs for Trina Gulliver, and the third for Deta Hedman. For Canada it is the third time that they go home with silver, the last time was in 1987.
