In the fourth edition of the International Darts League everything is different. The tournament will have a new sponsor in Topic and moves from The Hague to Nijmegen, where they will play in the Triavium. The group system in the second round is also making a comeback in 2006.
The darts world stands on its head in early 2006 when Raymond van Barneveld decides to switch from the BDO to the PDC. A major televised tournament in the Netherlands cannot run without its signature player. And thus, after long negotiations, it was decided that in addition to Raymond van Barneveld, four PDC players could participate in the tournament. The names are Phil Taylor, Colin Lloyd, Roland Scholten and Ronnie Baxter.
For the second year in a row it is Simon Whitlock who knocks the tournament favourite out. This time he beats Phil Taylor in the quarterfinals in a masterful game. With this victory Whitlock is the only non-PDC player in the semi-finals. Raymond van Barneveld takes revenge for his defeat a year earlier and beats the Aussie 9-7. In the other semi-final the PDC world number one Colin Lloyd beats Roland Scholten. In the final, Van Barneveld proves he is the best and beats Jaws 13-5 in sets. It is the third title in four years for Barney at the International Darts League.
