About Hungarian Darts Trophy 2026
The 2026 Hungarian Darts Trophy was held from August 28 to 30 at the MVM Dome in Budapest, Hungary. The tournament featured 48 players competing for a £230,000 prize fund. At the end of the weekend, it was Ross Smith who lifted the trophy, defeating Gary Anderson 8–2 in the final.
Several seeded players suffered early exits. Top seed Luke Humphries was beaten 6–3 by Dirk van Duijvenbode, while Wessel Nijman lost 6–2 to Dave Chisnall. Sixteenth seed Luke Woodhouse averaged 100.94 but was edged out 6–5 by Rob Cross, while the other leading seeds largely survived their opening matches.
Ross Smith began his campaign in the second round against Irishman William O'Connor, producing a 101.33 average to a 6–2 victory. In the Last 16, Smith faced fourth seed Jonny Clayton and won 6–4 to reach the quarterfinals. There he defeated Dave Chisnall 6–2, before overcoming Danny Noppert 7–3 in the semi-finals to secure his place in the final.
In the final he faced Gary Anderson. The Flying Scotsman started his tournament with a 6–2 victory over Krzysztof Ratajski, before surviving a much closer contest against Stephen Bunting, winning 6–5. Anderson then averaged 101.45 in another deciding-leg victory, this time defeating Gian van Veen 6–5 in the quarterfinals. Despite Aspinall averaging 96.87 in the semi-final, compared to Anderson's 89.05, the Scot prevailed 7–6 to book his place in the final.
The final was a very different affair. Smith quickly took control and never allowed Anderson to find the rhythm that had carried him through the earlier rounds. The Englishman continued to extend his advantage as the match progressed and allowed Anderson only two legs before completing a commanding 8–2 victory.
With this triumph, Ross Smith claimed the 2026 Hungarian Darts Trophy, collecting the £35,000 winner's prize. It continued an excellent period on the European Tour for Smith, who had also won the International Darts Open in Riesa earlier in the season.
