On July 14 and 15, Cologne stages the German Darts Masters 2019. Peter Wright is the player who wins the title for the second time in his career. Wright beats the tournament sensation, Gabriel Clemens, after a long game 8-6.
Wright starts the tournament with some difficulties, but nevertheless wins against his German opponent Robert Marijanovic with 6-4. In the quarterfinals, he then beats Nico Kurz. Kurz, who beat Gary Anderson in the first round, cannot surprise again with a big-name win. In the semi-final, Wright then faces his first big name opponent of the tournament, James Wade. Wade provided a whitewash against Daryl Gurney in the quarterfinals but was unable to extend that form in the match against Wright.
Both Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld stranded in the first round of the prestigious tournament in Cologne. Van Barneveld lost 3-6 to Gabriel Clemens and Van Gerwen lost a generous 5-1 lead to his opponent Martin Schindler and lost 5-6.
In the final, Wright has the task to deal with Gabriel Clemens, the big surprise of the tournament. For a long time Clemens looked superior, but after a strong second part of the match, it is still the Scotsman that wins the German Darts Masters with a final score of 8-6.
