In 2012 the PDC launches the Euro Tour. On the European continent, the Pro Tour tournaments disappear and the tournaments are played on big stages with big audiences in the venue.
In the first year there are five tournaments in the series. The Netherlands and Austria each get one stop and Germany is visited three times. Sixty-four players compete in the first round on two stages. From the second round the tournament continues on one stage.
The first edition of the Dutch Darts Masters is played at the Van der Valk Hotel in Nuland, where before 2012 the ProTour tournaments were played. The first edition ends in disappointment for the Dutch players. All the players of the home nation are out after two rounds. The number one seed Phil Taylor also exists in the quarterfinals where he loses to Wayne Jones.
Simon Whitlock becomes the inaugural champion when he beats Australian compatriot Paul Nicholson 6-1 in the final.
