The third edition of the Czech Darts Open was held in Prague, Czech Republic from 12 to 14 May. Peter Wright was crowned champion after a victory in the final against Dave Chisnall.
Wright starts the tournament as the ninth seeded player. The two-time World Champion narrowly beats Brendan Dolan 6-5 in his first match. A round later it is Danny Noppert who is no match for Wright: the Scot wins 6-3 and throws an average of over a hundred. In the quarterfinals, 'Snakebite' will compete against Luke Humphries. The Englishman has reached several EuroTour finals this year, but is defeated by Wright 6-3 in the Czech Republic.
During the semi-finals, Wright will play against another player who is doing well on this year's EuroTour: Damon Heta. It will be an exciting game, with both players throwing above a hundred average. Wright's 104 average put him in the final with a 7-5 win. In the other semi-final, Dave Chisnall beats Rob Cross 7-4, making the final between Wright and Chisnall.
Chisnall's route to the final takes him past Geert Nentjes (6-2), Andrew Gilding (6-4), Nathan Aspinall (6-5) and thus Rob Cross. With a tournament average of around a hundred and previous EuroTour titles this year (two), Chisnall seems to be the favorite in the final. But Wright plans to take his first title of the year. 'Snakebite' wins the final 8-6, so that he manages to win a EuroTour for the eighth time in his career. This puts him on a level with Gerwyn Price, and he only has to beat Michael van Gerwen when it comes to the number of EuroTour tournaments won.
