The first edition of the Baltic Sea Darts Open was held in Kiel from 24 to 26 February. It was the first EuroTour tournament of 2023. Dave Chisnall defeated Luke Humphries in the final to take a EuroTour title for the fourth time in his career.

The first round already has a few nice battles. For example, James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld face each other. It is the Englishman who manages to win 6-3. Daryl Gurney beats Gabriel Clemens in a deciding leg, while Steve Beaton is 6-2 too strong for Adrian Lewis with an average of 106.10. In addition to Van Barneveld, five more Dutch players will come into action: Martijn Dragt beats Ricky Evans 6-2, Richard Veenstra beats Florian Hempel 6-3, while the tournament ends for Jermaine Wattimena, Niels Zonneveld and Jeroen Mioch in the first round.

After beating Ricky Evans in the first round, Martijn Dragt beats Rob Cross (6-5) in the second round. Veenstra meets Dirk van Duijvenbode. In the end it is 'The Titan' who wins 6-3. Michael van Gerwen surprisingly falls against Stephen Bunting (6-4), which means Bunting's first victory over Van Gerwen in seven years. Danny Noppert also does not get past the second round: he loses 6-3 to Keegan Brown. Dave Chisnall wins 6-2 against Lewy Williams and Luke Humphries is too strong for Daryl Gurney (6-1).

Two Dutchmen remain in the last sixteen. Van Duijvenbode plays a great match against world champion Michael Smith and beats the number 1 in the world 6-3. For Martijn Dragt, the tournament ends in the third round after a 6-2 loss against Ryan Searle. Just like Noppert, Peter Wright loses to Brown (6-4). One of the most beautiful matches of the tournament is played between Dave Chisnall and Gerwyn Price. Chisnall wins 6-4 with an average of 107.04. The tournament is over for Price, despite an average of 108.29.

The last remaining Dutchman loses in the quarterfinals: Van Duijvenbode plays well against Humphries, but loses the match 6-4. Humphries will play in the semi-finals against Searle, who is clearly too strong for Brown 6-1. Chisnall (6-4 against Martin Schindler) and Jonny Clayton (6-2 against Beaton) also qualify for the last four. Humphries won four EuroTour tournaments in 2022 and immediately reached the final during the first tournament of 2023. Against Searle he is 6-5 behind, but he survives two match darts from Searle to win 7-6. In the final he meets Chisnall, who wins a thrilling match against Clayton 7-5. 'Chizzy' then also manages to steam through to the title: he wins the final with 8-5 and an average of 101.31. This makes him the first ever winner of the Baltic Sea Darts Open and he wins his fourth EuroTour title.
