The seventh edition of the European Darts Trophy will be held from 21-23 March in the Lokhalle in Gottingen, Germany for the first time since 2018. All the top players will be present, including defending champion Michael van Gerwen, who won the title three times in a row.
Eight of the seeded players lose their first match. Jonny Clayton is the highest seeded player who bites the dust. The fourth seeded Welshman loses 6-1 to Germany's Martin Schindler.
Nathan Aspinall starts the tournament in the second round against Englishman Ritchie Edhouse, whom he beats 6-5 after a close match. In the last 16 he beats Jermaine Wattimena 6-5. In the quarterfinals he faces favourite Luke Humphries and beats him 6-1. In the semi-finals The Asp beats Gary Anderson 7-6 and qualifies for the final.
In the final he will face the Englishman Ryan Joyce. Joyce starts in the first round and reaches the final after victories over Joe Cullen (6-0), Dimitri van den Bergh (6-4), Rob Cross (6-4), Cameron Menzies (6-3) and defending champion Michael van Gerwen (7-5).
Aspinall starts the final strong with a 4-1 lead against Joyce. Although the Newcastle player reduces the deficit to one leg at one point, Aspinall proves too strong. Aspinall – cheered on by a full house in Göttingen – wins his first PDC title since his World Matchplay triumph in 2023.
The Stockport star averaged 98 and hit five 180s to beat Joyce and take the £30,000 top prize at the Lokhalle, becoming the 38th player to win a European Tour event. This was Aspinall’s first EuroTour victory.
