The third edition of the European Darts Trophy was played between 11-13 September at Mülheim am Ruhr in Germany. After Sindelfingen and Leipzig, this means that this tournament for the third time found a different location. However, the final and the winner are the same. Michael Smith wins a thrilling final over Michael van Gerwen.
Smith en route to the final beats Wes Newton, Kevin Painter, Mervyn King and Ian White. Van Gerwen picks up wins over Adam Hunt, Jason Lovett, Dave Chisnall and Peter Wright.
Three finishes above 100 in the first four legs gave Smith a 4-0 lead despite an average of nearly 117 for the Dutchman. Van Gerwen is unable to close this gap in the remainder of the match and the victory therefore goes to Smith. It is Smith’s second Euro Tour win of the year, his third in total.
