After Brisbane, Queensland in 1985 the WDF World Cup darts goes "Down Under" for the second time this time to Perth in Western Australia. The long trip to the southern hemisphere means there are a lot less countries than two years previously in Basel, Switzerland. 

But with 26 countries, the organizers cannot complain, as all the top countries are present for this event. Like in the men’s competition, there were 26 countries present in the ladies WDF World Cup in Perth. Competing in their eighth WDF World Cup from October 1 through October 4 at the Burswood Resort in Perth.

Like in the pairs event, the English ladies also disappointed in the singles tournament. Both ladies, Trina Gulliver and defending champion Mandy Solomons, already lose in the quarterfinals. The two ladies from the USA were not in top form either. If they could have followed their victory in the pairs here with some good results they had the best chance for the overall title, but they both lost their first round match and had to wait and see what the competition would do in the rest of the singles tournament. 

In the quarterfinals two countries still had a chance to snatch the overall title from the USA; Wales and New Zealand. For Wales it was Sandra Greatbatch who beat Trina Gulliver 4-3. New Zealand’s Jill McDonald lost to Northern Irish Denise Cassidy 4-2 and that put an end to the chances for the kiwis. Sandra Greatbatch had to win the tournament to win the overall title for Wales and that pressure was apparently just too big because she lost in the semi-finals to Cassidy. The other semi-final was a clash between two countries of the Southern hemisphere. Noeline Gear from New Zealand won it by beating home player Dot McLeod 4-3. 

The final was a bit of an anticlimactic because Noeline Gear won it easily 4-0 against Denise Cassidy. For New Zealand, this was the second WDF World Cup singles title after 1991 when Jill McDonald had won it.
