The anniversary edition of the WDF Europe Cup was held at the Astoria Convention Centre in Bundoran, Ireland from October 9-13. For the tenth edition of this tournament, no less than a record number of 24 countries travelled to Ireland. Austria, Spain, Hungary and the Isle of Man are the newcomers. With 20 countries, a record was also set for the ladies. Yet a lot stayed as it’s always been, because England once again dominated.
The pairs event was won by the English ladies, just like two years before. Deta Hedman, now paired with Mandy Solomons, won 4-1 in the semi-finals against the Dutch duo Francis Hoenselaar & Valerie Maytum. Denise Cassidy & Grace Crane win in the other semi-finals 4-3 against the Finnish pair Tarja Salminen & Riita Eskelinen.
In the final, the Northern Irish duo Denise Cassidy & Grace Crane is no match for the experienced combination Deta Hedman & Mandy Solomons from England, it finishes in a 4-0 whitewash. It is the second consecutive pairs title for Hedman and the fifth overall for England in this specific event. Northern Ireland had never reached a final in the ladies before and can therefore look back at a successful tournament.
