The thirteenth edition of the WDF Europe Cup was held in Mechelen, Belgium, from 17 to 19 October. The Nekker event hall is the place of action. Nineteen countries participated in the men and women, including Russia, which is present for the first time in ten years.

No less than seven different countries in the quarterfinals of the pairs tournament of 2002. Only Denmark has two duos left in the mix. Brian Sørensen & Henrik Primdal lose to Raymond van Barneveld & Co Stompé with 4 1. Søren Behrendsen & Ole Jørgensen also lose out. They lose to the Scottish tandem Gary Anderson & Peter Johnstone. Mervyn King & Martin Adams are the only English pair in the last eight and they beat Mensur Suljovic & Franz Thaler from Austria without losing a leg. The semi-finals are completed by the surprising Swiss duo Walter Tschudin & Urs Vonrufs. The Swiss win 4 2 against the Finns Jarkko Komula & Marco Pusa.

In the semi-finals the Scots beat the Swiss and the English pair is 4 1 too strong for the Dutch defending champions Van Barneveld & Stompé. The final is a one-sided duel. Mervyn King & Martin Adams are far too strong for Gary Anderson & Peter Johnstone, it ends a 4-0 whitewash for the English duo.

It is the sixth time in history that England has managed to win the pairs tournament. For Mervyn King it is his first win in this event and for Adams it is his second time after the gold in 1996.
