The Tokyo Darts Masters were played on 6 and 7 July in the Yoyogi Olympic Hall. Officially, this is the first edition of the Tokyo Darts Masters although a Japan Darts Masters was already played in 2015 then in Yokohama. The PDC invited players taking part were Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright, James Wade, Raymond van Barneveld and Dave Chisnall.
All professionals survived the first round against qualifiers from Japan. Masumi Chino won the most legs (3) against Michael van Gerwen. Eventually, the tournament goes according to the seeding. The numbers 1 to 4 win in the quarterfinals, the top two get through the semi-finals and the final is won by the number one seed Gary Anderson.
The Scot thus wins his third World Series tournament of 2016 after Dubai and Auckland. He defeats Michael van Gerwen 8-6 in the final.
