The 23rd edition of the WDF World Cup was held in Esbjerg in Denmark. From 26 to 30 September the tournament was played at the Blue Water Dokken in Esbjerg. The tournament was initially going to be held in 2021, but the global corona pandemic forced the tournament to be postponed by two years.

Three countries are making their debut this World Cup. The Faroe Islands, Guernsey, and Liechtenstein. Marco Meijer from the Netherlands and Christian Sørensen from Denmark. The Netherlands is the defending champion in the mens event. For the women it is England defending its title and for the youth England was also the strongest in 2019.

No fewer than 49 men's teams participate in the team tournament. 15 groups of 3 teams and one group of 4 teams are created. The top two per group advance to the knockout phase. The biggest surprise is Canada's elimination in the group phase. They go out in a group with host country Denmark and Croatia.

In the last 32, the Finns eliminate the Belgians in a decisive leg and the Netherlands beat Northern Ireland 9-5. From the last 16 onwards, the stronger teams meet each other. Scotland wins in a decisive leg against the Swiss and Sweden eliminates the strong New Zealanders 9-5. The USA also get knocked out, they lose to the Czechs as the Finns also lose against Australia.

In the quarterfinals, the Netherlands easily eliminate Scotland 9-2. England also has little trouble with host country Denmark, the score is 9-3. The other two quarterfinals are a lot more exciting. Australia beats the Czech Republic 9-7 and Sweden even needs a decisive 17th leg to get past Wales. In the semi-finals, the Netherlands beat Sweden 9-6 and England beat Australia 9-5.

A final therefore between the Netherlands and England. Jelle Klaasen, Berry van Peer, Ryan de Vreede and Wesley Plaisier compete on behalf of the Netherlands against the English quartet Scott Mitchell, James Hurrell, Jamie Atkins and Reece Colley. It is the Dutch who come out on top and take the victory 9-7. It is only the second time for the Netherlands to win the team tournament at a World Cup. The last time was in our own country in 2007.
