From September 26 to 28, the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland hosted the 2025 Swiss Darts Trophy, the 14th event in this year’s European Tour. In a weekend filled with high averages, surprise upsets, and world-class finishing, it was Stephen Bunting who emerged victorious, defeating Luke Woodhouse 8–3 in a commanding final performance.
Bunting produced consistently clinical darts throughout the weekend, averaging over 100 in every round en route to his second European Tour title of 2025. The Englishman began his campaign in round two with a 6-3 win over Chris Landman. The third round he beats Krzysztof Ratajski 6–3, before brushing aside Raymond van Barneveld 6–2 in the quarter-finals with a 101.84 average. His semi-final clash against Gian van Veen proved a thriller, as Bunting edged out the Dutchman 7–6 in a contest that showcased relentless scoring and nerveless finishing.
Woodhouse, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakthrough weekend of his own. The Englishman produced a string of impressive victories to reach his first-ever European Tour final, defeating Ryan Searle 6–5 in the quarters before dispatching Cor Dekker 7–3 in the semi-finals. His composed doubling and calm stage presence made him one of the standout performers of the tournament.
The final began brightly for both players, but once Bunting found his range on treble 20, there was no stopping him. “The Bullet” raced clear with a run of five consecutive legs, sealing the title with an emphatic 103.90 average, while Woodhouse registered a solid 94.74 in reply.
With this triumph, Stephen Bunting adds another major accolade to his growing résumé. It marks his second EuroTour crown of the season, following his earlier success at the German Darts Grand Prix, and further cements his reputation as one of the most consistent players of 2025.
The weekend in Basel also delivered its fair share of drama: several seeds — including the defending champion — fell earlier than expected, and a number of home-nation qualifiers impressed in front of an enthusiastic Swiss crowd.
As the European Tour heads toward its conclusion, Bunting’s victory in Switzerland serves as another reminder that the former Lakeside champion has rediscovered his very best form — and will be a major threat heading into the final stretch of the season.
