The Queensland Darts Masters, held at the Townsville Darts Hall in Queensland on August 12-13, was won by Michael van Gerwen. He beats Gerwyn Price in the final 8-5.
In the first round of the Queensland Darts Masters, three of the PDC players lose. James Wade goes down 6-2 against Simon Whitlock, Jonny Clayton loses with the same numbers to Haupai Puha from New Zealand and Fallon Sherrock also goes out, she loses 6-3 to Gordon Mathers.
Mathers then continues well, beating Michael Smith 6-4 in the quarterfinals, making him the only 'local' player to reach the semi-finals. In it, however, he loses 7-1 to Gerwyn Price. Michael van Gerwen has a difficult start to the tournament, he struggles to beat Australian qualifier Bailey Marsh in the first round 6-5. However, after that Mighty Mike gets going and successively defeats Haupai Puha and Joe Cullen to make it to the final.
In the final, Gerwyn Price takes a 4-1 lead, but then it is van Gerwen who takes the lead and wins the final in a convincing way 8 to 5. It is Van Gerwen's 17th World Series tournament victory and that in his 25th final. For Price, the counter remains at one victory for the time being, but he did reach his second final.
