BDO World Trophy Men

For the first time since the big televised tournaments in the Netherlands disappear from TV, the BDO organises a big new tournament on TV.

Venue is the Blackpool Tower in 2014. One year later the tournament moves to Manchester. In 2016 Lakeside is the venue, again for just one year. In 2017 the tournament is played in Wales. The Memo Arts Center in Barry on the south coast of Wales is the new home of the tournament, but that relationship also only lasts one year. In 2018 the Preston Guild Hall provides the stage for the World Trophy, maar that also lasts only one year. From 2019 the tournament finds it current home in Blackburn’s King George’s Hall.

There are 32 men in the draw. The line-up is a mix of top players from the world rankings plus regional qualifiers and players who gain entry via a qualifying tournament.

Englishman James Wilson would become the inaugural champion. In 2015 Belgium ace Geert de Vos claims his first ever TV win and in 2016 Darryl Fitton wins his first major on British soil. The 2016 Runner-up wins the tournament I n 2017, his name Peter Machin from Australia. In 2018 it’s Glen Durrant who beats Germany’s Michael Unterbuchner in the final.
