In 2014, the PDC starts its Challenge Tour. This tour is designed to give new talents a chance to gain experience on a level slightly below the big ProTour. Players who failed to win a tour card can participate in the Challenge Tour tournaments, but there is good prize money on offer.

Especially players who have fallen from the top 64 and players who are new to the PDC seize the opportunity to play this new tour and gain experience for their future careers. The top two from the challenge tour receive a two-year tour card for the ProTour.

At the beginning of 2021, 118 Challenge Tour tournaments have already been held. The most successful players on the Challenge Tour until 2020 are Alan Tabern and Colin Fowler with four wins. Nine players have three victories to their name. The best known of that list is Rob Cross. In total 17 nine-starters were thrown on the Challenge Tour.
