In 2014, the PDC starts its Challenge Tour. This tour is designed to give new talents a chance to gain experience on a level slightly below the big ProTour. Players who failed to win a tour card can participate in the Challenge Tour tournaments, but there is good prize money on offer.
Especially players who have fallen from the top 64 and players who are new to the PDC seize the opportunity to play this new tour and gain experience for their future careers. The top two from the challenge tour receive a two-year tour card for the ProTour.
Over 200 Challenge Tour tournaments have already been held. The most successful players on the Challenge Tour are Berry van Peer, Wayne Jones, Alan Tabern, Scott Williams, Christian Kist, Andy Boulton, Cameron Menzies and Colin Fowler.
