BDO World Trophy Ladies

For the first time since the big televised tournaments in the Netherlands disappear from TV, the BDO organises a big new tournament on TV.

Venue is the Blackpool Tower in 2014. One year later the tournament moves to Manchester. In 2016 Lakeside is the venue, again for just one year. In 2017 the tournament is played in Wales. The Memo Arts Center in Barry on the south coast of Wales is the new home of the tournament, but that relationship also only lasts one year. In 2018 the Preston Guild Hall provides the stage for the World Trophy, maar that also lasts only one year. From 2019 the tournament finds it current home in Blackburn’s King George’s Hall.

Each year 16 women participate in a straight knockout format. The Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova wins the first edition by taking revenge for the lost World Championship final against Lisa Ashton. One year later the final is the same, but the result is reversed. In 2016 Ashton defends her title successfully and in 2019 she adds a third one. In 2017 Aileen de Graaf from The Netherlands is the strongest player. In 2018 Fallon Sherrock claims the title.
