BDO World Championship Men 2019

The Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship of 2019 was held from 5 to 13 January at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. Forty players from around the world did a shot at the title. It was Glen Durrant who won his third world title in a row after a final against Scott Waites.

Durrant starts the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Mark McGrath. McGrath managed to get rid of Adam Smith-Neale in the preliminary round, who came on stage on crutches and also played the game on one crutch. In the first round, six seeded players go down. Gary Robson loses after a bad match against David Cameron (3-1), Ross Montgomery loses 3-0 against Scott Baker and Chris Landman goes down after an exciting 3-2 match against Kyle McKinstry. The Dutch Wesley Harms and Willem Mandigers place themselves for the second round, in which they compete against each other. In the end, it is Mandigers who, with 4-2, proves too strong for his compatriot.

In the same second round, Mark McGeeney, who was the number one seed, loses 4-0 against Conan Whitehead. Glen Durrant takes a 3-0 lead against Scott Baker, but eventually manages to win the game 4-3. Also exciting is the matc between Kyle McKinstry and David Cameron. It is McKinstry who pulls the game with 4-3.

During the quarter finals the last Dutchman disappears from the tournament. Willem Mandigers loses after a great fight with 5-4 against Michael Unterbuchner. Scott Waites, Jim Williams and Glen Durrant convincingly reach the semi-finals. In this, Unterbuchner did not have a chance against Waites: the German won only one set and went down 6-1. Durrant takes a spot in the final for the third year in a row after a 6-3 victory over Jim Williams.

In the final it is the question who will become world champion for the third time: Durrant of Waites. The start of the final goes straight, but then Durrant shows why he is the titleholder. 'Duzza' wins the final 7-3 and after Eric Bristow he is the second player to win the Lakeside three years in a row.
