The twentieth edition of the Winmau World Masters would become a Scottish victory. On 2 December Anne Kirk wins the final by beating Marilyn Popp from the USA 4-0.
In the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green most of the big favourites make a surprise exit early. Francis Hoenselaar loses in the last 32 against Sandra Greatbatch and the worlds number one Trina Gulliver loses in the last 16 to the Swiss Lisa Huber. Thus it can happen that there are seven different nationalities represented in the last eight.
