The Winmau World Masters 2007 is held in November in Bridlington. For the first time in history, a nine darter is hit at the big stage. John ‘Boy’ Walton is the man who manages to do so in his match against Martin Phillips.

The tournament gets a surprising winner. Robert Thornton shocks everyone by defeating Co Stompé, Martin Adams, Martin Atkins and Darryl Fitton to claim the title.

The tournament is being reorganised this year, because the best eight players of the world join the rest of the field at the last 16. This ends the open character of the tournament. Some former champions do not agree with the new structure of the tournament, but the television broadcasters demand it. A number of top players (Gary Anderson, Mark Webster, Phill Nixon, Shaun Greatbatch and Niels de Ruiter) do not participate because the same weekend the Grand Slam of Darts was played and they favoured that one.
