Just before the start of the Premier League in 2006, the PDC hook the biggest fish they've ever caught. Four-time BDO World Champion Raymond van Barneveld makes his move from the BDO to the PDC. It is announced a week before the Premier League starts, and he receives a wildcard. From 2006 the Premier League is an overwhelming success and therefore is on the agenda ever since.

Besides Van Barneveld, Ronnie Baxter is the new name in 2006, they replace John Part and Mark Dudbridge. Taylor remains undefeated again in 2006; he has one draw on 23 March in Bournemouth against Raymond van Barneveld. Van Barneveld that night plays twice before a frenzied crowd who all came for the last game of the evening; the clash between Barney and The Power. However, this evening will go into the history books for another reason. In the first game of the evening, Van Barneveld throws the first ever nine-darter in the history of the Premier League in the ninth leg of his match against Peter Manley. Van Barneveld loses only one match that first year, against Phil Taylor.

Roland Scholten also reaches the semi-finals with a fine third place; fourth place goes to Colin Lloyd. Where everyone gears up for a grand finale between Van Barneveld and Taylor it is another Dutchman who puts a stop to this. Roland Scholten beats his compatriot convincingly 11-3, getting him through to the final. Taylor will win that final for the second consecutive year, this time 16-6.
