The third edition of the German Darts Grand Prix was played in the Easter weekend of 2019, in the Zenith Kulturhalle in Munich from 20 to 22 April. The winner is the same for the third year in a row; Michael van Gerwen also wins the third edition.

Van Gerwen certainly does not have the easiest draw on his way to the final. He beats Polish ace Krzysztof Ratajski 6-4, then Stephen Bunting 6-1, both matches with an average of well over 100. His most difficult match is in the quarterfinals against Ted Evetts, where Mighty Mike needs an eleventh and decisive leg, but he wins. In the semi-final, Rob Cross doesn’t show up, Van Gerwen wins with ease 7-1.

In the other side of the bracket the topseeds fall like ripe apples. The number two seed; Ian White loses after he has missed 32 darts on the double to Karel Sedlacek from the Czech Republic. Peter Wright is ranked third, but he also loses his first match, just like Adrian Lewis (6) and James Wade (7). Ultimately it is Simon Whitlock who reaches the final. In the semi-finals he is 4-6 behind to Max Hopp, but the German cannot finish the match. Before that, The Wizard has already won against Cristo Reyes, Ross Smith and Joe Cullen.

Van Gerwen soon makes the difference in the final. He plays much better than his Australian opponent and wins 8-3 and does so with an average of 106.45. It is already the 30th victory on the EuroTour for Van Gerwen and he takes that 30th victory three days before his 30th birthday. Whitlock stays on one EuroTour win, he has now lost five finals in addition to his one win.
