The fifth edition of the BDO World Trophy was held at the Preston Guild Hall in England from May 30 to June 3, 2018. Peter Machin was the defending champion and in 2018 he again reaches the quarterfinals, but German ace Michael Unterbuchner is too strong for the Australian. It is Glen Durrant who 'finally' also claims the fourth major of the BDO.

The first seed Durrant has been the absolute number one in the BDO system in recent years and successively beats Dafydd Edwards, Tony O'Shea, Darius Labanauskas and Jim Williams in Preston to then beat the aforementioned Unterbuchner in the final. .

Michael Unterbuchner reached the semi-finals at Lakeside in January and now adds a final in the World Trophy to his tally. He plays a great tournament with victories over Dean Reynolds, Mark McGeeney, Peter Machin and Ross Montgomery.

Unterbuchner is the first German man to reach the final of a major, only Heike Jenkins-Ernst in 1996 reaches the final of the Winmau World Masters. Glen Durrant is the first player of his generation who knows wins the four existing majors. He already had the Winmau World Masters (2015 & 2016), the Finder Darts Masters (2015 & 2016) and the Lakeside World Championship (2017 & 2018) on his list of achievements.
