The third edition of the BDO World Trophy was held at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green from May 28 till 30. Geert de Vos from Belgium is the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Jamie Hughes.

Darryl Fitton won the tournament by defeating Peter Machin from Australia in the final. The tournament is full of surprises and of the pre tournament favourites only Jamie Hughes reaches the semi-finals where he loses to the eventual winner.

Dean Reynolds from Wales shows for the first time on a big stage that he is a talent for the future. Among others he beats Martin Adams en route to the semi-finals. But the biggest surprise is surely Peter Machin. The Australian makes his debut on a big TV tournament and defeats big names like Jim Williams, Tony O'Shea and Scott Waites.
